Hi, I'm Kayla Tagg, the photographer behind Auburn Photography and a Johannesburg family photographer specialising in maternity, newborn, birth and family photography.

Based in Fourways, I photograph families across Johannesburg, capturing natural moments between parents, babies and children in a relaxed, documentary style.

I grew up in a 'Photographer' family, and this meant that all life's special moments were documented, but so were the ordinary ones.

My sister and I on our swing set, playing with our toys on the lounge floor, or doing homework at the kitchen table. These were photos showing life as we lived it, and as we remember it.

I remember so many cozy afternoons spent paging through photo albums of seaside holidays and family get togethers around the braai. Life's brief moments collected and cherished in albums and those old Foto-first envelopes.

It's with this background that I came to love photography, especially photos of families and children just being themselves. I believe that every moment is worth treasuring, even those everyday ones. It is through these photographs that we watch our families grow and transform.

We can see how much things change, but also how what is truly important stays the same: Our Love, Joy, Togetherness.

What I Believe In

I believe that photography is more than capturing a moment, it’s preserving a legacy. Every family, couple, and birth I photograph deserves images that tell their story authentically, with care and respect.

I prioritise privacy and consent, ensuring that every image shared reflects the trust my clients place in me. My aim is to create photographs that families will cherish for generations, images that capture genuine connection, emotion, and the quiet beauty of real life, allowing memories to live on long after the day has passed.

In this digital age, it's so easy to get caught up in the instant gratification of a social media post. And as nice as it is to get a gallery full of digital images, how much better to have a wall full of memories?

That's why when I started this journey, I decided that everyone needed photographs they could feel and touch. Photos to frame and hang on the wall, to remind us everyday of who we are and who we love.
